110: Pranayama 1

Learning to feel and harness the energy of our breath can be one of the most transformational practices of yoga. It's no surprise that the word for breath (prana) is synonymous with "life." In this course, you will cultivate a deeper appreciation for the power of the breath, practice several pranayama techniques, and learn to teach a simple breath practice. By integrating breath awareness and pranayama into your teaching, you will provide your students with access to one of yoga's most ancient and powerful tools.

Note for CE Credits: If you are a current teacher taking this course for Yoga Alliance CE credits, you may submit for 4 hours of Techniques Training and Practice credit via the Yoga Alliance website.

By the end of this course, you will be able to:

  • Define "pranayama" and describe the physiological benefits of pranayama practice.

  • Articulate three ways pranayama may be used within a yoga practice and describe the three parts of the breath.

  • Teach breath awareness, the full complete breath, a counted breath exercise and ujjayi pranayama.
