104: Anatomy Of Bones And Joints

Bones and joints are the foundation for all movement in the human body. In this lesson, we will investigate the purpose and structure of bones and cartilage, examine different kinds of joint movements, and the implication of skeletal variation in asana. By understanding how our bones and joints affect movement, you will profoundly deepen your ability to teach functional asana and support your student’s yoga practice.

Note for CE Credits: If you are a current teacher taking this course for Yoga Alliance CE credits, you may submit for 2 hours of Anatomy and Physiology credit via the Yoga Alliance website.

In this course, you will learn to:

  • List five functions of your bones and name and palpate the bones of your skeleton.

  • Demonstrate the movement and function of the most common joint types and describe the purpose of cartilage.

  • Evaluate how skeletal variation may affect asana functionality.

I learned a lot from this module, and I have a background (degree) in biology! As well as having been an elite athlete and having advanced wilderness first aid certification. Great distillation of just what was needed and nothing more.
